Only one week until this 5k run, and things are not great. Over the weekend I ran upstate in the country. I ran for at least 40 minutes, and I never felt like I could kick it into the next gear. All I could do was hang in there at a moderate pace for what was probably around four miles.
Today I used 5k sports training option on the treadmill again, still at level 1. I did a warm-up and then the 5k took me 28:50. I averaged 6.46 mph; 9:16 minute mile. This is worse than my last treadmill run.
I'm not sure if I should run again before the race, or take it easy. If anyone has any thoughts, let me know.
On a separate note, the other day I read this article in The New York Times: Yes, Running Can Make You High. I know for me I always feel an intense euphoria about 20 minutes into my run. The first time this happened I was all excited and thinking "oh this is what it's all about, this is great, I'm going to run all the time," then I realized that the feeling lasted about all of 30 seconds. I'm interested in what others have experienced.
